Jupiter Influence Among Korean Actors
Over the years, I have noticed a distinct pattern in the Korean entertainment industry, where most stars considered to be icons have strong Jupiter influence in their charts. Korean general public prefers celebs with a graceful and elegant image, who also have "duality" (they're cute but fierce) and Jupiter natives are endowed with these charms.
I had already mentioned female Kpop idols & Jupiter influence on a previous post, so, this post will focus mainly on Korean actors.
Song Hye Kyo is arguably the most successful Korean actress of all time. She has been in the top billing for over 20years at this point.
She has Hasta Moon (I had mentioned in another post about how Hasta women are revered for their femininity and grace), Uttarashada Ketu (UA gives one a glamorous image) and Vishaka Mercury Atmakaraka.
Atmakaraka is what signifies our soul's purpose, hers lies in the Jupiterean nak of Vishaka.
In fact, its very common for Korean actors to have their atmakaraka or amatyakaraka in a Jupiter nakshatra.
2. Park Minyoung has Venus in Purvabhadrapada as her atmakaraka
She rose to fame playing a young girl who disguises herself as a guy in order to attend school in ancient Korea. It is her family's dire circumstances that push her to attend school in order to find work. This whole drama is very Jupiter coded and the majority of the cast have strong Jupiter placements as well.
Her most popular drama is What's Wrong With Secretary Kim where she plays the secretary to a CEO who is almost inept without her micromanaging his life. I've noticed that many Jupiter women tend to be in this position where, in whatever relationship dynamic, others don't know what to do in her absence because she often single-handedly runs the whole place and makes it look easy and only in her absence do they realise that its far from easy.
3.Kim Ji-won is Punarvasu moon
One of her best known roles is that of Choi Ae-ra in Fight My Way, which I would say is a very typical Punarvasu character. Punarvasu's enthusiasm, almost childlike behaviour and charm can fit the description of a quintessential Asian romcom protagonist and Choi Ae-ra is a very good example of the same. Her rise from the bottom rung of the ladder to working hard to get where she is, is also a very Jupiterean tale (since Jupiter moon natives go through their Saturn mahadasha as young adults).
4.Kim Go-eun has Punarvasu mercury & ketu
Kim Go-eun's first ever starring role was as Eungyo in the movie of the same name.
It is the story of a teenage girl who becomes the object of desire for a 70yr old poet. The movie is very Punarvasu coded imo. In fact, regarding her casting, the novelist, whose book was adapted to the film, had this to say:
"She was perfect for the forever virgin and forever young image that Eun-gyo symbolizes."
This is literally the embodiment of Punarvasu energy which makes the native simultaneously sensual and innocent.
5. Gong Hyo Jin has Vishaka moon atmakaraka and mercury in Purvabhadrapada amatyakaraka
Her character in When the Camellia Blooms is very Jupiter coded. Jupiter energy can often be manifest as a kind of innocence and naivete and a tendency to be a goody two-shoes.
6.Shin Min-ah has Saturn in Vishaka as amatyakaraka
Her most well known role would be that of a doctor in Hometown Cha Cha Cha, in which she plays a person who refuses to compromise on her principles/ethics to get ahead in her career and has to end up leaving Seoul for a small town. This is again, very Jupiter coded because Jupiter influence makes natives very righteous and possess a strong sense of integrity.
7.Han So hee is Vishaka sun
She was recently in an MV for Jungkook's song 'Seven' which features a quarrelling couple. I've often noticed that with many famous Vishaka women, fighting with their partner, often publicly seems to become attached to their public image. This could also apply to their relationships becoming controversial in general. Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lana Del Rey, Jennie etc all have their luminaries in Vishaka with the exception of Lana who has a Vishaka stellium and they've all had relationship drama that caught public attention in a major way.
The role that catapulted Han So Hee to fame was that of a married man's mistress in the drama The World of the Married👀
8. Jung So-min has Purvabhadrapada Sun & Venus (atmakaraka), Punarvasu Moon (amatyakaraka)
in Because This Is My First Life, she plays a broke writer who despite being a good daughter is not appreciated by her family at all, and despite being good at what she does, faces trouble in her workplace and is overall just going through a not so good time . As I've said before, Jupiter natives go through their Saturn Mahadasha as young adults and this phase is a difficult one where they have to work very very hard to get things done and make any kind of progress. Most K-dramas that focus on the adversities of life, as experienced by a 20 something probably has a Jupiter dominant native as its protagonist.
in general, the reason why Jupiter dominant men & women dominate Korean entertainment, be it music or dramas, is because of the kind of content that Korean entertainment focuses on and the kind of people that the Korean public chooses to support. K-Dramas are known for their complex plots, often focusing on people at conflict with their values and ideas, struggling with their conscience, facing life's challenges and overcoming adversity; class struggles, portrayal of wealth/lack of it, rising to the top, underdogs emerging as winners etc. These are inherently Jupiterean.
Even with Korean music, it has a unique system in place where idols have to "train" for several years before they make their debut. Being hardworking and being an "ace" who excels in several areas is prided on in Korea; in such a culture, it makes sense why Jupiter dominants emerge as the ones on the very top of the food chain.
Now, we'll talk about some male actors😋😌
Lee Minho has Mars in Punarvasu & Mercury in Punarvasu (his atmakaraka & amatyakaraka)
Honestly, his entire filmography is very Jupiter coded 🤣 The role that made him a household name was that of rich, spoilt heir to an immensely wealthy family who is the most popular guy in school and leader of his rat pack.
His most successful role is that of a King in the drama The King: Eternal Monarch which is about an ancient Korean emperor who time travels through a portal into modern-day Korea. Both the fact that he's playing nobility as well as the fact that the drama features time travel/alternate reality esque things makes it VERY Punarvasu coded.
(Punarvasu's element is ether and its deity Goddess Aditi is the Mother Goddess and creator the universe itself, many time travel/movies about the nature of reality feature Jupiter natives)
The drama co-stars Kim Go-Eun, who I have already mentioned above as a Punarvasu girlie🥰
2. Gong Yoo is Punarvasu sun (amatyakaraka)
He starred in the movie "Silenced" which was based on a horrifying true story where he plays a teacher at a school who tries to stand up for and protect differently abled children who are routinely subject to extremely cruel and abusive treatment at a boarding school.
Punarvasu natives are known for standing up for others, especially those who do not have a voice/who are unable to stand up for themselves. These natives have a strong sense of justice and empathy and do not think twice about questioning authority.
His character in Coffee Prince is one which made him a household name and in this drama, he plays a chaebol heir who falls for a young guy who is actually a woman disguising herself as a guy 💀I feel like Jupiter men have at least one movie/show in their filmography that is very queer coded (ex: Keanu Reeves, Punarvasu Moon with My Own Private Idaho)
His most well known character is that of Goblin in the drama of the same name, where he plays an immortal who seeks salvation. Very Punarvasu coded.
This is just a personal observation but I've noticed how many Punarvasu men have an androgynous vibe 🥵
3.Kim Woo Bin is Punarvasu sun (atmakaraka) and mercury
His breakout role was that of a wealthy chaebol heir in the drama, The Heirs.
Playing the CEO's son or the CEO, who is initially arrogant and then faces different trials and tribulations and ultimately redeems himself is a common Kdrama trope and I've noticed that the actors picked for these parts the most tend to be Jupiter-dominant.
4.Song Joong Ki has Vishaka moon & saturn (his atmakaraka)
Vishaka is a rakshasa gana nakshatra and I'd previously observed how many mafia movies feature rakshasa gana natives as the main leads. Joong-ki's Vincenzo sees him play a mafia lawyer.
His character is Arthdal Chronicles (featuring fellow Jupiter girlie, Kim Ji Won) is also very Jupiter coded. Its about the birth of civilization and life in the ancient world. Joong Ki plays the leader of his clan.
5.Park Seo Joon has Purvabhadrapada moon (his amatyakaraka)
He is one of those actors who plays himself in every show/movie he does. This means all his characters are charming, slightly awkward or a little dumb, but good natured and caring individuals who go above and beyond for others. This is like a quintessential Jupiter man trope.
Especially his character in Fight My Way, is VERY Jupiter coded and features fellow Jupiter native, Kim Ji-Won.
A slightly stupid but endearingly adorkable guy who works a low end job and trains to be a boxer whilst looking out for his friends and loved ones? Especially his whole side arc with his ex gf on the show is such a Jupiter guy thing; to forgive a woman and be there for her even though she never cared for him and only kept him around because he was sooo nice to her and did everything for her. I've seen this happen with many Jupiter guys because as Claire said in her video these are the nice guys who women keep in the friend zone because even though they're perfect and extremely courteous, women don't feel like they could be a serious partner.
His character in Itaewon Class explores Jupiter in a different way. He is a struggling businessman who is engaged in a long drawn out battle with a chaebol and finally emerges victorious in the end. Despite the chaebol's petty and below the belt tactics, Seo-joon's character always took the high road and held on to his principles and conducted himself with integrity. Jupiter natives are almost always destined to be the bigger person.
6.Park Bogum has Mercury in Punarvasu as his atmakaraka
He rose to fame for playing a motherless prodigy on Reply 1988. His character was a typical Jupiter one; he's very talented, successful and recognised for the same but he takes no pleasure in it and does not really indulge in the privileges it offers him.
His most famous role would be that of a Prince who falls in love with his eunuch (who is actually just a woman pretending to be a eunuch) in the drama Love in the Moonlight. Like I said before, Jupiter guys have at least one queer coded project in their filmography lol.
7.Park Hyung shik has Sun & Mars in Vishaka (his atmakaraka & amatyakaraka)
His most famous role is that of a CEO in the drama Strong Girl Bong Soon.
8.Yoo Ah In has Venus in Vishaka as his atmakaraka and Jupiter in Purvabhadrapada as his amatyakaraka
His character in the movie Burning represents the dark side of Jupiter men.
His drama Chicago Typewriter features him reincarnating in present day Korea after initially living in the 1930s.
Jupiter influence is visible in movies/shows that have tropes of alternate reality, reincarnation, time travel etc.

GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO THE JELLIB'S SWEETHEART, MINYOUNG!
Minyoung excitedly walks onto the stage, her cheeks high as she smiles brightly towards the crowd while approaching the mic.
"Hello, Ficfest! Can you believe it? We're actually on the last day!" She pouts as the crowd reacts, head sadly nodding as she sighs out, "I know, I know! I'm gonna miss this, too."
Minyoung holds the pink card close to her chest as she fondly scans the crowd.
"Tonight, I'm honored to be presenting the award for the Fic It Boy of 2024. With names like these in one category, I'm actually surprised everyone was able to pick just one! We had Haruki, J.J, Finn..." She sing-songs, giggling to herself at her clear pick while the audience laughed, "Woojin, Oliver, and Noah! Seriously, how can you guys vote on this?"
She gives a high shrug, feigning confusion as her doe eyes widen for dramatic effect.
"Well tonight, one of these iconic boys will be walking away with thee award of the night."
Minyoung leans closer to the mic as she looks over her shoulder towards the nominees and back at the card, slowly opening it to build up more anticipation.
"And the award goes to...Finn!"
She squeals, almost too excitedly, as she slightly bounces up and down while give him a round of applause.
"What else was there to expect from the standard? Congratulations, Finn! You truly are an idol after everyone's heart."
CONGRATULATIONS TO FINN FOR WINNING FIC IT BOY AT 2024'S FICFEST! IT WAS DEFINITELY EARNED 🤍 SHOW VENUS SOME LOVE AT ... @bluwavez!

₊˙ ◌ ⁎˚ 〇﹒﹙choi yewon (arin). cisfemale. she/her.﹚guess who was almost late for their shift at haesmuli cinemas again?? that’s right, it was lee minyoung! it’s a wonder their job as a ticket taker isn’t in jeopardy. the 24 year old has been working at sunset galleria for one month, and is well known for their passionate nature. on bad days, they can be rather condescending, though. when the mall is dead at night, they can usually be found asking follow up questions at keyboard warriors, but don’t tell their boss!
hi everyone! minyoung is heavily inspired by lisa cheon (no longer a heroine) and sprinkled with a little bit of aqua (literally made her an aquarius bc aqua.....i thought it was a cute nod to his name HAHA) + kana (oshi no ko), just with a little less misfortune (for now idk i'm always drawn towards angst so hmu if u are too)
i'll try to keep the bullets short so you get the general gist but i tend to ramble on and on. she may change and evolve as i continue to get used to writing her, but i'm excited to bring her to the dash and hopefully give her a new dream/goal eventually :')
as always, please give the ♡ button a nice push and i'll come running over to your dms to plot! :3
background
forced into acting as a child by her mother who was rly just trying to live vicariously through her
went by the stage name miae to protect her personal identity
coached by her mom but was one of those "naturally gifted" youths so it was usually just some tweaking to the script that was done
an absolute icon and star in the entertainment world until everything came crashing down around her
minyoung pin points 2 potential moments when things started to shift for her: 1) her dad having an affair and leaving the family behind to pursue his lover abroad & 2) her younger sibling's birth (wanted connection plug)
keep in mind when these two events happened she still hadn't even reached her double digit age bracket yet
but regardless, she was kicked into high gear work wise but with everything going wrong around her and being unable to properly process any of it, her acting started to slip and she wasn't doing as great as she used to
ofc lots of gossip calling her a flop, public opinion was kinda ready to shift against her and leave her behind for other rising stars.......her mom was having none of it
rather than comforting minyoung she just pushed her harder and the coaching was becoming strict (for lack of a better word). minyoung just going through the motions at that point
but she hated that she'd gone from praised and adored to pitied and ridiculed so she decided to go big for her last project
everyone expected it to flop which was why the director reluctantly let her onto the project after her mom pretty much begged for it and what would you know, miae gave a performance of a lifetime
and then she quit acting
after minyoung continued to throw tantrums over how she refused to act again, eventually her mom gave up and turned to the younger child
she initially felt bad as the elder child and almost gave in to her mother's demands to keep the pressure off of her younger sibling (since she knew all too well how heavy those expectations were) but when she saw them thriving and adored by their mother in ways that she never was, she grew resentful and withdrew to herself
eventually they would leave her behind to further pursue the younger sibling's career in the states and minyoung was left to take care of herself (i'd say this was around her second or third year of hs?)
now years later, her acting funds have reached a standstill, and she's a ticket taker at haesmuli cinema!!!!
personality
still as conceited as ever
has always known herself to be attractive and puts no effort into hiding it or humbling herself
despite her decline in success and finances, she still outwardly behaves as if she's royalty; a materialistic and expensive taste regarding everything from food to clothing – sometimes even people
lacks the ability to read the room and will be brutally honest even if the situation requires careful consideration for the other person's feelings
has a short temper and a foul mouth developed from years of online gaming in the absence of an actual job or motivation to do anything else with her life
sometimes regrets not swallowing her pride and getting back into acting or even applying herself to a college arts program but will never share that out loud
often too prideful to admit when she's wrong
is afraid to let people in after constantly being left behind by those who were supposed to hold her dear but deep down really wants to be able to
will butt her nose into another person's business to stick up for someone if she thinks that they're getting picked on
constantly projecting (sorry in advance)
pretends like she isn't interested in anything but is actually whole heartedly dedicated to things once she puts her mind to it
acts big and tough but is really sensitive and actually wants a big hug lowkey
feels very strongly towards things while also simultaneously feeling nothing at all
a lil sassy but overall just thinks that she's being the cutest effing thing
future development?
being able to embrace genuine interests in hopes of pursuing a future more meaningful to her
i hope that being around others in sunset galleria can help her realize what she really wants to do with her life instead of letting herself hide away because of her stubborness
did she truly love acting or did she really just love the attention that came as a result of her work?
actress miae comeback???
maybe pro gamer lee minyoung???
passionate manager of haesmuli cinema???
idk im just hoping she finds something to love and can become genuinely happy
if you actually read this far congratulations and thank u for being here with me. you can find some particular plots on my plots page up at the top of this intro but i'm always happy to brainstorm up some ideas! minyoung could use any and all sorts of relationships, i'm up for anything!!
#sunsetintro#im leaving to see twice this weekend so i'm mostly just gonna be lurking around for a bit while i'm away#but i was so excited i ended up finishing this blog/submitting my app much sooner than anticipated heh

MINYOUNG DIDN’T KNOW WHAT SHE EXPECTED WHEN SHE ENTERED THE I-LAND, BUT IT CERTAINLY WASN’T THIS. Looking around as she stepped down the small stairs, she took in the sight around her.
The “Gate” led to a spacious area with seats arranged in a semicircle, and right above it was a display with flag-like icons showing blank profiles. Behind the seats was a practice room which seemed larger than any of the ones Minyoung had stepped foot in, and next to it were smaller practice rooms, probably for individual practices.
The sleek finish and sophisticated look of the interior starkly contrasted with the ruggedness of its exterior, because the second Minyoung saw the cube, she'd deemed it unworthy to look at more than once. It looked like the villain's headquarters from a dystopian movie, if Minyoung were to put it kindly.
Slightly menacing, and just plain ugly. Compared to that, the interior was a welcome contrast.
But of course, the inside had to reflect the outside in some way, which explained the questionable decor of rocks scattered randomly, and the huge egg she just walked out of.
The tastelessness of the designer was the least of Minyoung's concerns though, because the rules of the survival show seemed just as questionable, if not even more.
Who deemed it a clever concept to make the contestants (literal kids, except for a few, mind you) judge each other and decide the entry candidates for I-Land?
Everyone (including herself) was as clueless as she had expected them to be, and it reflected in the results of the entrance test.
Trainees who performed first got in easily even if their performances were mediocre, whereas the standard got higher as the end approached. Trainees who Minyoung had thought would get in, didn't make it simply because there were less available spots in I-Land.
It almost made her question if the main reason for her and her unit-mate's entry into I-Land was owed to Minyoung's luck in Rock-Paper-Scissors rather than their performance and skills.
Minyoung deemed it unfair because the voting process had been harsher on the latter trainees.
Even worse, the system voice (or Robot-nim, as she liked to call it) implied that all of the tests moving forth would require such voting to determine the results, including the upcoming “test” to remove five trainees and satisfy I-Land’s capacity.
It was rather cruel, Minyoung thought as she watched Robot-nim list the facilities I-Land held, no one would want to leave after seeing all this.
You may all go explore the I-Land.
“Amazing,” a male voice spoke from beside Minyoung, at the same time an arm looped around hers with a cheery ‘Hello!’ being thrown her way. Kang Mirae and Kim Sunoo, Minyoung recalled. Both of the newcomers burst out in giggles at their sync, making Minyoung chuckle.
“Well, hello to you too, friends,” Minyoung said in a posh tone, “how may I help you on this fine evening?”
“I was going to ask if you wanted to go look around with me…” Sunoo hovered an arm around her shoulder, properly side-hugging her when he saw Minyoung nod slightly and pulled her away from Mirae’s hands, “...alone.” The implied ‘go away’ in Sunoo’s tone and actions made Mirae frown.
“Hey now, we can talk to her together,” Mirae gripped the younger girl’s arm and tugged Minyoung closer. “Don’t hog,” she glared playfully at Sunoo.
Minyoung raised an eyebrow at how casually they were conversing, pulling away from both of them with a squirm to face them. “Do you guys know each other already?”
“Yeah,” “Uh-huh,” came the simultaneous replies as both of them reached out for her again, not giving her time to question how they got to know each other.
Laughing at their eagerness, Minyoung wrapped an arm around Mirae and moved closer to Sunoo. “Let’s just go together, I need company, too.”
Mirae held her waist, nodding at her words, “we’re sitting together when we get back here.” Just as Minyoung was about to nod, Sunoo tugged the girl away by the sleeve of her off-white hoodie.
“Let’s go explore!”
“Hey, what about me?” Mirae whined as she ran to catch up with them. Minyoung laughed at the annoyed expression Sunoo displayed at Mirae’s insistence to join them, finding it amusing that her two new “friends” were already fighting over her.
Not that Minyoung was complaining.
Being the textbook definition of an extrovert, Minyoung was always open to making new friends. But she was even more thankful for Sunoo and Mirae’s initiative at that moment because her two Japanese friends seemed nowhere in sight, and with one Kim Taeyong not making it to I-Land and Choi Saebyeok leaving to join her own group of friends, Minyoung was left searching for some company.
She didn’t blame Saebyeok though. The older girl wasn’t obligated to stay by her side no matter how close they’d gotten in the time they spent training together. She’d been told stories about Saebyeok’s training period by the girl herself, and certain names were frequently mentioned in them.
Lee Heeseung, Jay and Park Sunghoon were three of them that Minyoung got to meet before the Entrance test due to their seating arrangement. Though Minyoung had experienced the feeling of being a third wheel for the first time by accidentally sitting between Heeseung and Saebyeok, she could feel the close friendship they shared just from their short conversation and warm eye contact.
Looking back down from the top of the stairs, Minyoung found Saebyeok laughing at something with Heeseung and Kim Soojin as she had an arm looped through Sunghoon’s. Smiling at the sight, Minyoung let herself be dragged by Mirae up the remaining steps.
And there it was—the I-Land house in all its glory.
The living space was huge, with a plush couch and a glass opening right in the middle and there were hallways leading to what Minyoung assumed were the different rooms.
Like pieces of iron drawn to a magnet, the curious crowd moved toward the dining area because of the smell of food, all while marveling at whatever part of their temporary home they could see.
"This place is no joke," Sunoo whispered close to Minyoung's ear as if he wasn't allowed to express his opinions out loud, "I just can't believe we made it in only to immediately participate in another voting."
Eyes doing an exploration of their own, Minyoung smiled at the pout evident in his voice. "Let's get a good look around first." She drew closer to the boy in hopes of providing comfort, pulling Mirae along by her hand. "Hopefully the three of us will get to stay."
"I just don't—" Sunoo cut himself off with a gasp at the sight of various dishes arranged on the kitchen island. Similar gasps were heard all around as the trainees quickly surrounded the food, hands already busy grabbing at whatever they could find and stuffing their face with it. Some of them didn't even bother grabbing a plate before digging in.
Minyoung scrunched her nose at the haste, but she understood. No one knew for sure if they'd get to stay in this heaven at the end of the two hours, so everyone was trying to make the most out of the little time they had in I-Land.
Letting go of the two, Minyoung grabbed a small plate to stack some of the grilled meat (were those pork ribs?) and chicken drumsticks, and moved away from the crowd. Finding herself a comfortable spot, she munched on the chicken as she observed the trainees.
The other girls were busy looking around as they ate, while Jay and Daniel tried to find someone who knew how to make ramen without burning the kitchen down.
Soojin and Saebyeok seemed to hold a mini competition to find out who could feed Yang Jungwon more, judging by the way Saebyeok was trying to hand feed him a piece of pork rib and Soojin kept piling his plate with more and more food.
The poor boy was visibly in pain with how full Minyoung could guess he was, but he didn’t protest when Saebyeok fed him another piece.
As she watched the amusing scene in front of her, Minyoung realized how unusual her behavior was—observing silently from a corner instead of mingling around and making friends.
Since she needed to know what the others thought of her, Minyoung felt like she couldn't approach anyone without a strategy, especially the other girls who were her direct competition. She needed to make sure everyone saw her as an equal despite her short training period. And more than that, she wanted to be someone who the participants wouldn't think of voting out.
And for that, she needed to make a good impression on the contestants, so she chose to observe the interactions around her to learn their mindset.
Minyoung nibbled on her pork rib as she watched Seon going around praising and sweet-talking the contestants, a typical chameleon way of making sure he stayed in I-Land. She scoffed under her breath in amusement as she heard him praise Sungchul's vocals.
If Minyoung was going to stay in I-Land, it would be purely out of her talent. She just needed to find a way to present herself as someone essential for the team.
She usually wasn't this way—plotting ways to appeal her skills to her peers. Minyoung preferred to let the results speak for themselves. But as it was, and unfortunately for her, her fate rested in the hands of the other contestants instead of the producers who'd seen her progress, and she had to survive somehow.
Finishing her last drumstick, Minyoung moved to the sink to wash her plate.
A hand opened the faucet just as she reached for it and held a plate under the running water. Jerking back slightly to avoid colliding with the person, Minyoung looked up to see K smiling down at her. The 16-year-old returned the smile with a small bow—he was the oldest after all—and leaned on the counter once more.
"I enjoyed your performance a lot," K kept his eyes on her, gently smiling as he washed his plate, "you're a really good dancer." Minyoung didn't expect the compliment from K of all people (everyone knew he was the best dancer out of all the participants), but she appreciated it.
She just hoped he wouldn’t notice her cheeks heating up. She wasn’t used to compliments from guys, alright? Her only proper male interactions were with her brother and father, and she went to an all-girls school, so any slight positive attention from boys her age (and maybe a bit older) made her feel slightly fuzzy in the head.
But that was not important right now.
Shaking her head slightly and thanking him for both his words and the space he left for her to wash her own plate, Minyoung decided to take this chance to ask him about his opinion on the voting. Being more experienced than her, he’d definitely have some pointers that Minyoung would find useful.
That, and she figured living in her head without talking to the contestants would not help her win the favor of anyone.
She turned to face the older boy—er, man? As she opened her mouth, K interrupted her with his own question. “Any ideas about who you’re voting for?”
“Not yet,” she pouted. “Do you have—"
“Can we all gather in the living room?” Seon called out, interrupting her again. Damn, why won’t people let her talk?
Minyoung sighed as K smiled apologetically. It was okay, she’d talk to him later.
Four pairs of eyes turned to the 16-year-old as she entered the blue room. Faltering in her steps at the sudden silence that overtook the room at her arrival, Minyoung let out a sheepish laugh. “Sorry, I thought you heard me knocking…”
“No problem, come in,” K smiled warmly at her. The three other boys, Ni-ki, Ta-ki and Nicholas greeted her politely as she sat down next to Nicholas. “I wanted to talk to you before the voting anyways,” K grabbed her attention again.
“I don’t know what to do, Oppa…” Minyoung sighed, before suddenly straightening up. “Oh! Is it okay if I call you Oppa? Or would you prefer K-san?”
“K-san?” The three Japanese trainees chorused in surprise. Nicholas chuckled at her overly-polite address (how he knew who ‘san’ was used for was beyond her) as he shook his head.
“I don’t think you have to be that polite.”
Cheeks burning at his gaze, Minyoung averted her eyes only to find K staring at her with the same soft eyes and a smile, “Oppa is fine.”
“Alright,” Minyoung nodded, slightly ducking her head to cover her face with her hair. God, please, not again…
“Noona dances so well,” her attention was grabbed by the cute compliment from a cute Ta-ki. Minyoung didn’t know if he was talking about her unit performance or the freestyle she did when everyone was showing off their skills after their little meeting, but she smiled sweetly at the comment, thanking the boy.
“Is Ta-ki the youngest here?” Minyoung tilted her head, looking between him and the other boy who—even though he didn’t look the part—could possibly be younger than Ta-ki since she didn’t know their birthdays.
“No, I’m younger,” Ni-ki shook his head confirming her guess, smiling widely at her.
The unfamiliarity of his voice made Minyoung realize that they were speaking for the first time ever in the ten months they’d known each other.
(Well, know would be an overstatement, the most they’d done was exchange bows on the first day of Minyoung’s training and wave at each other when they’d cross paths at the company, but Minyoung considered him a friend regardless.)
Though the familiarity in his eyes and smile unconsciously brought a fond smile to the girl’s face, and she nodded at his answer. “Have you thought about how you’re going to decide the elimination candidates?” Minyoung started the conversation she’d been waiting forever to start, not noticing the oldest’s curious eyes on her.
“I have a little idea, but—” Ni-ki’s answer got cut off by Robot-nim calling out the boy’s name, asking him to head to the voting room.
It seemed God wanted Minyoung to decide who to vote for on her own, ‘cuz this was the fifth freaking time in two hours that she’d been interrupted from getting opinions from the other trainees.
Well, alright then.
“I just decided who to vote for,” Ni-ki announced hurriedly before closing the door behind him. A rush of anxiety hit the remaining trainees in the blue room as they collectively groaned at the prospect of possibly leaving the state-of-art I-Land building to some cheap downgrade called ‘Ground’.
Now, Minyoung hadn’t seen the place yet, but even the name was incredibly ugly. So ugly, that she’d admit that the 'ugly brown cube' was a hundred times better. Eugh.
Just then the door opened to reveal a head of short brown hair peeking inside. The newcomers’ eyes lit up at finding her target as she strode in to grab Minyoung by her shoulders.
“There you are,” Yamazaki Hana exclaimed, looking relieved like she’d just found her lost child.
She was in no way lost, but she could accept being referred to as the older girl’s child. Ever since Hana had been introduced to Minyoung as her assigned ‘friend’ by BigHit, the older girl had basically adopted her. Hana, along with Minyoung’s older sister Minji, made sure she felt the least homesick one could be when they were so far away from home, something the girl was extremely thankful for.
Quickly greeting the three boys, the ‘00 liner turned to Minyoung again, “Let’s head to the lobby, everyone’s gathering there.”
The boys expressed their agreement, all three of them throwing Minyoung a smile as they moved past her. "Time for elimination," Nicholas heaved a sigh.
“Okay,” Minyoung followed after Hana with a feigned calmness, trying her best to ignore her loudass inner voice that kept repeating the same thing like a broken record.
This was not going to end well.
And well, it didn’t.
Kim-fucking-Sunoo was eliminated for whatever fucking reason and Minyoung could swear she saw red the moment his name was announced to be the most voted. But since the time and place was not appropriate to express her anger and frustration, she held it in.
But then, as if the universe wanted to test her patience, Hana was announced as the next eliminated candidate.
Yamazaki Hana, who was literally one of the top female dancers in I-Land, got fucking eliminated. If the I-Landers couldn’t see her skills, they were probably blind.
For a few seconds, the young girl sat with her eyes closed in her place on Hana’s lap, as she tried to calm her breathing. The eliminated candidates were decided. There was nothing she could do except hope they came back up. Anger was not the answer.
Inhale, exhale.
Opening her eyes and standing up, she was met with a smiling Sunoo walking towards her.
“How in the world are you smiling right now?” Minyoung whispered in disbelief as Sunoo chuckled. Taking her hands in his, he ignored her question in favor of pulling her close.
“Can I hug you?”
Minyoung sighed shakily, moving closer to wrap her arms around his shoulders, making sure to maintain a small distance so that their chests were not touching. She could feel the boy’s arms loosely wrap around her waist as his warm exhale fanned over her neck.
“I’ll be back,” was the only thing he said before parting with a smile, moving on to say his (hopefully temporary) goodbye to Daniel.
Turning around, Minyoung rushed into Hana’s arms. This time, the hug was a tight tangle of arms as the girls held each other close as if that was enough to keep Hana in I-Land. Pulling back slightly to look at the older girl’s face, Minyoung ducked back to bury her face into Hana’s shoulder when she felt tears stinging her eyes.
This was so not fair.
Saying goodbye to the first batch of dropouts was hard enough. Minyoung still remembered the look of lost hope on Taeyong's face as he bid her goodbye, and she didn't think she could handle seeing it again on anyone else's.
Letting go of the older girl, Minyoung watched the five trainees trudge towards the rotating egg, eyes incredibly blurry with tears.
How Hana and Sunoo got eliminated was beyond her when I-Landers like Sophie and Seon were right there. No offense to anyone, but if there were anyone in I-Land whose skills needed the competitive environment Ground promised, it was those two.
But then again, it wasn’t like Minyoung expected any better than the Entrance Test.
She wondered if the voting process was all part of a grand scheme to help the talented but underestimated trainees prove themselves to the other contestants and the viewers, so that no one would question their competence upon their debut. Or more specifically, she desperately hoped that was the case and that the voting was not a cruel joke played by the producers.
That would be a little too cruel, even for a survival show.
As she watched the five contestants leave through the egg with silent tears streaking down her flushed cheeks, Minyoung could only think about one thing. Whatever the producers’ plan was, Minyoung was gonna have to survive through it all if she wanted to debut.
No matter what.
